In-Person Lessons Taught by Our Ag Literacy Coordinator:

All About Apples: Students will learn more about the lifecycle of an Illinois apple through building models and sequencing. Students will also learn about the seasons that impact apple growth, what products apples are used to produce, and the role of pollinators in apple growth.

Pumpkins: Students will learn about the lifecycle of a pumpkin, its importance in Illinois agriculture, and will grow their own pumpkin seedlings.

Seeds: Students will learn about the different parts of seeds and what is necessary for their growth, as well as will demonstrate the germination process by completing an activity.

Livestock Lessons

Beef Cattle: Students will learn the process of beef farming and the products that are derived from beef cattle.

Dairy Cattle: Students will learn about the process of dairy farming and raising dairy cattle and how they produce dairy products for us to consume.

Poultry: Students will learn about different types of poultry, the anatomy of an egg, and the differences between different types of poultry.

Pigs: Students will learn the process of raising pigs and the products that can be derived from hogs.

Specialty Crops Through the Seasons: Students will learn about the seasons on the farm and what impacts the growth of certain specialty crops, as well as finding out when and what specialty crops are grown in Illinois.

Soil: Students will get an in-depth look at the components of soil and learn how important it is in conservation efforts and how it relates to agriculture and farming.

Agricultural Careers: Students will learn about the vast study of agriculture and all of the career fields it encompasses.
